Dangerous Depths Release Day!

“I like seeing you like this,” I told Treygan.
“Like what?”
“Proud of who and what you are.”
He stood taller, his shoulders spread wider. “You helped me realize my gorgon side is nothing to be ashamed of.”
“Good.” I threw my arms around his neck. “Now teach me how to turn things to stone.”
He lifted me off my feet. “Later. First, we have a date with Koraline and Pango.”
“I’ve decided I want to swim there.” I bit my lip, fighting back a smile. “So we can race.”
Treygan kissed me while carrying me into the water. Confidently—bordering on cocky—he said, “I apologize in advance for leaving you in a cloud of bubbles.”

Title:  Dangerous Depths
Series: The Sea Monster Memoirs #2
Author: Karen Amanda Hooper
Publish Date: November 20, 2013

Hell hath no fury like a selkie separated from his true love.

The gate to the sea creature realm is finally open. Rownan assumes the worst is behind him when he returns home after years of waiting to be reunited with his wife, Vienna. Only to find out that Vienna didn’t wait for him. She traveled to the evil realm of Harte years ago, hoping the legend of another gateway to Earth’s realm was real, but she was never heard from again. Rownan claimed he’d go through hell to be with Vienna, and now he must prove it.

Yara wanted to bask in the glow of her happily ever after in the magical realm of Rathe. She planned to explore Medusa and Poseidon’s world and dive deeper into her relationship with Treygan, but as the new leader of Rathe, her powers are needed to save more than one member of her own kind. Treygan vowed to always be Yara’s guardian, but long ago he also swore to go any lengths to protect his brother Rownan. Now, he must fulfill his promise to both of them.

Rownan, Yara, and Treygan are about to put their lives and souls at risk by traveling to the most dangerous realm of the worlds. Love should conquer all, but no one has ever conquered Harte.

 DANGEROUS DEPTHS PLAYLIST
Song list in chronological order of when they take place in the story.
WARNING: Some vague spoilers!
1.) Waves of You- Eric Turner (Rownan to Vienna beginning of book)
2.) Sail- AWOLNation  (drunk Rownan in his dark place on the beach)
3.) Drifting- Plumb feat. Dan Haseltine (Yara & Nixie to Rownan--another way)
4.) If I Lose Myself- One Republic (Treygan to Yara the morning of their trip)
5.) The Sea- Morcheeba (Traveling and arriving)
6.) Storm- Lifehouse (Rownan to Vienna when he’s alone in Harte)
7.) I Want You Here- Plumb (Vienna on her beach with the driftwood)
8.) Waves- Blondefire  (Yara and/or Vienna)
9.) Little Talks- Of Monsters and Men (Yara & Treygan in the last half of the book)
10.) Together Again- Evanescence (Yara when she becomes separated from Treygan)
11.) Hazy- Rosi Golan feat. William Fitzsimmons (Vienna & Rownan duet)
12.) Down- Jason Walker feat. Molly Reed  (This one tugs ta my heartstrings. I picture each character: Rownan, Yara, Treygan, and Nixie, on their own singing this song. It flashes between each of them during seemingly hopeless times during their fight to get out.)
13.) My Last Breath- Evanescence (Nixie & Yara)

*BONUS SONG: Hero- David Crosby & Phil Collins (This was a song from my TANGLED TIDES playlist. It’s an oldie, but it was so perfect as a song that Rownan would sing about Treygan. Right down to the “when the hero kills the maiden with his kiss” line. This song still gives me goose bumps when I listen to it.)

Vienna and I had sat on this beach, and so many others in Rathe, more times than I could count. I turned my head and the glittering sand turned into a mirage of a young Vienna. I wasn’t delusional, I knew it was just me reminiscing, but there she was, skipping down the beach several yards away. She saw me, waved, and ran over to me.
She looked so real. My mind retained every detail, right down to the sand in her black, windblown hair. “Have you seen all the shells that washed ashore?”
Of all the conversations we ever had, this one was my favorite. One of the first times we discussed being more than friends. “Yeah.” I smiled. “How many have you collected?”
She bent down and picked up a piece of sea glass, holding it up and admiring it in the moonlight. “Only one. The rest belong here, on the beach—or in the ocean, if the tide chooses to carry them away.” She tossed the sea glass back into the sand and sat down beside me. “I don’t keep them. I just like admiring them, holding them between my fingers and feeling how different each one is. Except for this one.” She removed a shell from her armband. At first it looked all white, but then I noticed the hints of green and silver. “Feel it. It’s hard and soft at the same time. The edges are ragged, but run your fingers along the silver veins—they’re soft as silk.”
I rubbed it, noting all the different textures. “You’re right.”
“It reminds me of you.” Her ivory cheeks blushed and she looked down, studying the shell in my fingers. “Something so unique should be treasured. Forever.”
“The shell?”
She leaned toward me—barely an inch—but it was enough to feel the energy building between us. “You, Rownan. I would treasure you forever.”
It was the first time I kissed her. The first time I had kissed anyone. We were barely teenagers, but I remembered it like it happened yesterday.
I pulled away and smiled at her.
She groaned, frustrated. “I was afraid that would happen.”
“What’s wrong?” Panic flooded me. Had I turned some part of her to stone like Treygan had done when he kissed Kimber?
“I knew if you kissed me, I’d be forever ruined for anyone else. No other selkie, or any creature for that matter, will ever top that.”
Sweet relief. “Good. Because I hope you never kiss anyone else.” I handed her shell back to her. “I want to keep you—I mean, treasure you. Forever.”

Dangerous Depths!

Hello Everyone – I am back in business of doing one of the things I love in life – Reading!  It sure takes a bit longer to read when you have a 10 month old baby boy to care for who has nonstop energy and hates to nap but I did it!

The first book I have been able to finish is the sequel to Tangled Tides called Dangerous Depths by the lovely Karen Amanda Hooper!  This book was an advanced copy read so if any of you are reading my blog and would love to read this book you will have to wait until November 20, 2013 to get your own copy, which luckily is only a two day wait from today!

Now if any one of you needs a refresher the review for Tangled Tides is around the bottom of my blog (posted date December 21, 2011).

Dangerous Depths leaves off perhaps a day or two from where Tangled Tides ended wherein Yara, who is trying to get used to her multi sea monster abilities/traits, and Treygan are in in blissful happiness after surviving the Triple Eighteen and are now able to travel to and from Rathe and see family and friends that have been trapped there for years.  Rownan however since the Triple Eighteen has discovered horrible news about his wife and only true love Vienna, that during all those years of being trapped in Rathe, she tried to find a new way to get to Rownan; a dangerous and horrible path that no one has ever been able to survive or find a way out of.  Rownan is determined to find her, dead or alive, and Yara and Treygan come to Rownan’s aid, against his wishes and take a journey that can leave their souls forever tormented, in pain and forever trapped in hell itself.

Most books I read have a tiny recap here and there in the first few chapters but this book I found lacked that and that is either a good thing, if you have just read the book before it, or a bad thing, if you have not read the book in a few years and have what I call these days “Mom Brain” wherein you have trouble remembering everything that occurred in the last book.  It is not the author’s fault, I know she really wanted to get the ball rolling and get us, the reader, fully engaged in the book, which I feel she truly managed to do.
There were a lot of moments I love, specifically between Yara and Treygan.  I loved the moment where he took her to a place in Rathe that he has been unable to take and share with anyone until Yara.  The surroundings proved to be a very romantic setting and it is too bad that a place like that doesn’t truly exist (or does it?).  However, I loved a part more than I think I should have which happen to take place in the depths of Harte between Yara and the Kraken.  I would love to go into detail about that however, as I like to give reviews that are mostly spoiler free, this one would be filled with spoilers.  If the author is reading this though, I sure hope this Kraken makes an appearance again in the future!

Now I cannot think of another book that I could recommend to read that would be similar to this one, as I have been unable to read as many books as I used to these days (all for a good cause though).  I am sure though that once I find something along the same lines as this book I will let you all know.

Dangerous Depths is a must read, filled with many magical adventures and gives the message that Love is Worth Everything and if you are child free I am sure you will find that you will not be able to put this book down and finish it much faster than I was able to!

Hello Again and Sorry

Hello everyone and sorry for my absence.

Life happened to me in a surprising way after my last post - since that post I became something I never thought would happen - I became a Mom :)

I apologize for my contest - I never awarded a winner but I also never got a good turn out for it but I guess things take time.

I plan on hopping onto the wagon again soon and post some reviews once I have found the perfect book to start things all up again (hoping to get news on that front this week actually) so if any anyone is still reading this stay tuned!

Five for Five

I have finally read some books I feel I should have read a long time ago and some I did not plan to read until later.

All five of the below reviewed books get five stars from me!

The Pledge:

Wow what a different concept for a book with promise.

A Queen with the ability to live forever in different bodies, a girl with the ability to do things no one else can and a Prince trying to find the only one who can change the country from becoming worse than it already is.

Set in an alternate society where Queen's with powers rule the countries, I found this book to be very interest and a well paced read. I found myself at times thinking about this book, wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Rebels are trying to find the one royal heir that can take the evil queen's place and there's a love story hidden underneath the fighting and diplomacy.

My favorite part of the book, unfortunately cannot be mentioned as it contains a major spoiler. All I can really say is that YOU. MUST. READ. THIS. BOOK.

The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay:

Wow what a book, what a series! I wish I had read this series when I first bought it, LAST YEAR!

I find this series to be well worth the wait it took me to get to it though, granted with the movie coming out I am somewhat glad I waited long enough. I managed to read all three of these books a week before the movie came out. I loved these books so much that even though I work a full time job I went to the midnight screening on Thursday night.

Almost everyone knows the story: A girl from the seam volunteers to take her sister's place in the Hunger Games. A love story brews in the Arena. Said girl makes a fool of the Hunger Games. Uprising begin. All districts join together to rage a war against the capital and said girl tries to win it all for her district, for every district.

My favorite scenes are as follows:

1. While in the arena Katniss climbs a tree and uses the Tacker Jackers to kill two tributes and while doing so gets stung by the Tacker Jackers and goes through days worth of visions.

2. While in the arena for the second time, Katniss blows the arena to bits and believes it is the end of her life while the plane comes to take her away.

3. The end of the book, plain and simple. Who she ends up with and why.

This series is right up there with Twilight and I find I can find that I can re-read this series over and over again and it will never grow old.

The movie is well done and I could as well see that movie over and over again.

Pandemonium:

With Alex no longer with Lena she is now in the Wilds and left to join a small group of invalids who try to bring down a group and let the world know the cure is not worth it, that 'all you need is love'.

This book was, I found, better than the first. It was crazy intense and what an ending! I cannot wait for the third book!

My favorite part was the ending so of course I cannot say any more than that.

Pick up this book now if you have read the first one and I assure you, you will not regret this read!

Three Reviews for three books well overdue

Delirium

What a great read this book was.  It totally opened up my mind into thinking if Love was a disease that has actually not been prognoses in this world we live.

The setting is the future, a world based on selection and living in a world of haze as the lead character, Lena Haloway, would see it as.

It is really hard to review this book as I would rather just say read it and you will not be disappointed.

My favorite part of this book is how they show the Lena’s character changing from the beginning of the book where she cannot wait for the cure to where she cannot wait to escape the cure if she can.

I have never read a book a close to this so I cannot recommend any reads that would be similar at the moment.

I just cannot wait for the release of the second book to arrive at the end of this month.  It will be a must read as this one is.  I cannot wait to see how changed Lena has become from where we leave her at the end of this book.

Ashfall

This story was amazing to read and I could totally see it in my mind.  What would we all do if a super volcano exploded without any real warning?

What would we do if our loved ones were in another state when this happened – would you risk your own life and go out and search for them without even knowing if they are alive?

Would you leave the comforts of your home and wait out the ashfall until you had no more food or comfort for that matter?

A lot of questions for a book I really did not expect to be such a really futurist reality that could be.

My favorite part of this book is when the main characters reach a camp for the survivors of the eruption of the Yellowstone Super Volcano and how the government reacts to such a situation that could really happen at any moment.  Would you put your trust in the government to help you out?  I know in certain situations in actual reality where the government has come threw with aid but in a situation we are not prepared for I doubt I would want to put my trust in the government… at least not in this reality.

This is again is a situation where I cannot think of another book that would opens your eyes into a future that could happen.

May we continue to live in a world where this future does not happen – however if it does I hope we are more prepared for it than the characters and world in this book was.

Divergent

Wow, just…. Wow.  I have not read the Hunger Games series as of yet but I imagine it to be exactly like this book.

Tris is part of a world of being selfless – even though its harder for her to act on then she realized.

Tris lives in a world that when the time you reach the age of 16 you have to choose to either pick a new fraction to live in or continue in the fraction you were already born into.

Tris is about to change her life so drastically that you cannot help but want to read more and see if the Tris you read at the beginning of the book will be the same Tris at the end.

Although I have not read the Hunger Games I would suggest that book series to read that would be similar.  After seeing the commercials for the movie trailer for Hunger Games I would imagine it to be quite similar to this book.

My favorite part of this book is when Tris begins her new life in a different fraction.  I love how she becomes the person she may have already been at the beginning yet just hiding and waiting for the right moment to come out and release herself.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series.  I may have to re-read this book again just to tide me over until I have my hands on it.

Now onto the next books….

PS - I have not been able to finish Girl of Fire and Thorns.  I do plan on going back to this book so please keep watch for my review in the near future….

Humanity

Wow this book was not what I was expecting. It was deep into discoverying what it truly means to be human.  Ash goes on his quest to be with the woman he loves.  Along the way he discovers what it means to have to let go of the past, and above all how breaking a promise could lead to the end of him.  Friendships are changed, and old friends and new friends are met along the way.

What I loved about this book was firstly how is was through Ash's point of view.  Being able to know his thoughts and go through what he has to in order to be with The Iron Queen is beyond words.  You get to know the past, his past, and in a way his future should he follow through with it.

The second thing I loved about this book was how in a way we get to know what may be the future for Ash.  I will not go in great detail as I do not want to give any spoilers away, but knowing what will or could be Ash's future is like knowing that even though this is the last book in a series it gives us a possible happily ever after.

I haven't read any other book that is similar to this, as this book may be unique in its own way.

The only future we do not seem to know about is Puck's and that I could see may be a whole new series on its own if the author ever decides to come back to the Nevernever.

Now onto my next book which was a little hard to choose from (I have only four hundred books to read in my to be read pile....) but i decided to take a break from Faries and go into a different world...
